PORTFOLIO FOR THE FUTURE

Your support of the construction of the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building invests in MSU's Portfolio of Promise for future generations. The individual investigator, group and multidisciplinary research conducted in the building will provide unlimited benefits for our personal and professional lives, including:

Basic Research Area: Study of cell growth, differentiation, and communication

Benefit: Treatment or elimination of chronic disease such as cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune and cardiovascular disease

Basic Research Area: Study of the structure and function of cell proteins

Benefit: Creation of new drugs and other products
Basic Research Area: Study of genetics and diversity of microbes and their functions

Benefit: Enhancement of environmental quality, elimination of environmental contamination, and monitoring of global change

Basic Research Area: Study of disease agents at the molecular level

Benefit: Provision of safe food and water supplies and elimination of drug-resistant disease agents (pathogens)

Basic Research Area: Study of the fundamental physical properties of solids and liquids

Benefit: Characterization of unusual processes and materials and the discovery of new materials

Basic Research Area: Study of plant biochemistry, transgenic plants, and response of plants to environmental changes

Benefit: Improvement of plants and products, increase in agricultural productivity, and development of sustainable agriculture

Basic Research Area: Study of genes and their functions in cells, organ systems, and populations

Benefit: Elimination of genetic diseases
Basic Research Area: Study of the substructure and interactions of elementary particles and nuclei

Benefit: Understanding the laws that govern the universe and development of the technical tools required to perform the experiments
