COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS BRING DISCOVERY
Many of today's complex problems require multidisciplinary solutions, and significant advances are being made where the sciences interface. The Biomedical and Physical Sciences Facility will facilitate exchange by breaking down departmental walls, uniting people of various disciplines, and creating and fostering opportunities for meaningful collaboration.
A central science library
opening onto a light-filled atrium will encourage cross-disciplinary
exchange among faculty, students and visitors. A network of lab space,
flexibly designed to respond to the ever-changing needs of science, will
enrich research in critical interdisciplinary areas. Floors will be
devoted to the study of chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes and
heart disease; genetics and genetic diseases; environmental quality and
bioremediation; materials science; and elementary particle physics,
astrophysics, and instrumentation.
