PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
BIOMEDICAL AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES FACILITY

The Biomedical and Physical Sciences Center will be the largest academic building on our campus for the next generation. This new facility will be the cornerstone of a science complex including chemistry, biochemistry, physics, astronomy, microbiology and physiology. The new science cluster will be a catalytic force for hard sciences at MSU. In building the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Facility and establishing a genuine science campus in East Lansing, we are the architects of basic science research for the 21st century at Michigan State University.

Great science is achieved in an environment that stimulates and rewards success. Top-ranked faculty require state-of-the-art facilities, ease of access to peers in complementary scientific research disciplines and talented pools of graduate and undergraduate students. That is the environment in which discovery is born. Space, tools, talent, time and the synergy of intellect will be brought together in this new facility.

We take pride in the fact that this university is a leading research institution in the biomedical and physical sciences. The important discovery of cisplatin in our laboratories is well documented. Our pioneering work in agriculture, physics, biochemistry, chemistry and materials research has also brought us distinction. In addition, being home to three medical schools has helped make Michigan State University unique in the sciences. We need your support of basic science at MSU to build on this distinguished history for the future.

The faculty and alumni profiled here bring science at MSU to life. As you'll see by reading about them and their work, your support of this capital project will provide far more than bricks and mortar. Your support for the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Center at Michigan State University will mean that MSU scientists who strive to answer critical questions will have a world class environment in which to do their work.

When you support basic science at MSU, you take your part in the discovery of the answers to fundamental questions. I hope that we can count on you.
